About Me

I am Ivo Vondrák, a professor at the Department of Computer Science at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the VSB - Technical University of Ostrava. I, along with several of my colleagues, founded this department in 1990 and had the honor to lead it until 2002. In 2002, I became the dean, and in 2010 also the rector of our university . Besides my work at our universities, I also had the chance to work abroad. I have worked in Austria and the USA for an extended period and have lectured all over the world as a professor. One of my most significant projects, which my team and I prepared and brought to a successful conclusion, was the project of the National Supercomputing Center IT4Innovations, which we established in Ostrava.

Teaching, dedicating myself to science and research has influenced my entire life, and I consider it a great fortune that I have been and still am able to do this work.

Besides my academic career, I have also been involved in political work. I was a member of the Government Council for Science and Research. I served as the Governor from 2016 to 2023 and also in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament, where I am still a deputy and work in the Committee for Science, Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports. The largest project for which I was the guarantor was the program of transformation of Moravian Silesian Region, which was based on the idea that it is necessary to „change coal mining to data mining."

I have always considered politics a natural extension of what I did as a dean and rector. Changing our region for the better, based on science, research, innovations, and technology.
